I’m a minor. Can I participate?
The festival is open to all professional or amateur photographers, whether Brazilian or foreign, in Brazil or any other country. It is allowed the participation of photographers under 18 years of age only for participation with free photos. Minors cannot participate in the sensual photo category.
I participated in the previous edition, do I need to make a new registration?
No need. However, at the first access, the system will ask you to confirm the personal data previously filled.
Period of registration? Subscriptions only on website?
Entries can be made only from the festival’s official website from March 16 to July 16.
Are the registrations free? How many photos can I submit?
Each participant may submit up to two (2) original / copyright photographs for free. From the third photo on, a R$ 25.00 (twenty-five reais) fee will be charged for each photo, with a maximum of 12 (twelve) photos per participant.
Photo that contains image of recognizable person, but I do not have authorization, can participate?
Recognizable persons, unless you can demonstrate in writing that these persons have granted all necessary authorizations for the use and publication of the photographs by Brasilia Photo Show, organizer of the event, under the terms and conditions of the assignment of right of use of image, except for the photos that compete in the journalistic / documentary / street view categories; Send authorization to the e-mail: firstname.lastname@example.org
Of course. But make sure it communicates emotions to the audience. There is a category that even values this type of photo, the best portrait of people. Do not forget to send authorization for use of image duly completed and signed to the email email@example.com, immediately after submitting the photo.
Theme is free?
. The theme is free. The technique is important, but it is not fundamental. The essential is what the photo awakens in those who look at it, that is, the emotions and the feelings that the photo transmits. However, when entering the details of the photos, the participant must choose one of the 16 (sixteen) categories.
Do I need to enter my photo into a category?
. Yes. Starting in 2018, the festival will be divided into categories: photos must be entered in one of the 16 (sixteen) categories with specific themes. The festival organization may, without prior notice, include, change or delete a category, even if the festival is already open. If this occurs, the photos entered can be placed in another category.
Participants from outside Brazil can participate?
The Brasilia Photo Show festival is open to all professional or amateur photographers from Brazil or abroad, Brazilians or foreigners, over 18 years of age. The first two photos are free and up to 12 photos can be entered per person.
I am a foreigner and would like to participate, but I do not have a CPF. How do I do?
For the registration of foreigners, some fields are not mandatory. This is the case of the CPF. Once a country other than Brazil is placed, the system will mark the CPF field as not required.
Mobile, drone or tablet photos are allowed?
The participant can send the photograph made by conventional digital camera (digitized), cell phone camera, drone or tablet.
I’m an amateur photographer, can I participate?
Of course! The BPS is a festival that receives photos from amateur and professional photographers from all over Brazil and the globe. The technique is important, but it is not fundamental. The essential is what the photo awakens in those who look at it.
I’m a professional photographer, can I participate?
Certainly! Many professional photographers from all over Brazil participate in the festival.
Resolution and photo size?
The photo sent by the participant must be digital, have a minimum of 300 KB and a maximum of 15.0 MB with a maximum dimension of 6000 × 8000 px.
Can I add a watermarked photo, date or other text over the image?
No. Signatures and names of authors in the image are not allowed. The authorship of the photograph will always be associated with the author of the work and exposed in a standardized way by the organization of the festival. The placement of the name or any brand in the inscribed image is not allowed.
Can I submit a black and white photo?
The theme is free and participants can submit colored or black and white photos to the festival. However, among the 16 statuette-winning photographs, will be selected: the best digital camera photo that will win a statuette with this mention; the best photo made with cell phone camera that will win a statuette with this mention; the photo of the cover of the commemorative book of the 2018 edition of the Festival that will win a statuette with this mention; and the best black and white photo that will earn a statuette with this mention.
Can I treat a photo in Photoshop or another editing program?
The photographic treatment is allowed for accentuation or decrease of brightness, contrast and color, and variation of hue by up to 15%. Photographic editions with artificial coloring, assemblies, overlays and chromatic aberrations should be included in the specific category: Edited Photo/Editing.
Do all winners win a book prize?
Unfortunately, no. According to the regulations, each participant classified as first and second place of each in the 16 (sixteen) categories will receive a copy of the book Brasilia Photo Show 2018/19. If the participant wins with more than one photo, he/she will only receive one copy of the book. The books will be delivered at the awards ceremony (date to be determined). If the participant cannot attend the ceremony, he/she will have to pay all transportation costs to receive the book. After the book’s launch, participants will be able to purchase the publication through the festival website.
If my photo is approved for posting to Facebook, can I share it with my contacts?
Yes. Actually, you should do that. Likes, comments and photo sharing on the official festival Facebook page helps the jury / curators interpret the impact, quality, and public appeal of the photos. However, the decision on the scoring and awarding of the photos will be exclusive to the organization of the festival, which may ultimately be influenced by public participation or not.
Can I submit a contest or winner photo of this festival in another contest?
No problem. The participant can submit his/her photograph in other competitions even if he/she has participated in the BPS. However, if you are a winner of one of the editions of the BPS, make sure that the regulations of the other competitions do not conflict with regards to the photo license. By submitting the photo to the BPS festival, the festival organization understands that the assignment of photo rights to Brasília Photo Show is valid and authorized by the participant.
Can I submit to the BPS festival a contest or festival photo?
No problem. The participant will be able to submit their photograph in the BPS. However, make sure that the regulations of the other competitions do not conflict with regards to the photo license. By submitting the photo to the BPS festival, the festival organization understands that the assignment of photo rights to Brasília Photo Show is valid and authorized by the participant.
Can I use automatic like gain systems, comments and reactions to Facebook?
Do not use automatic like gain systems, comments and reactions to Facebook in order to “inflate” the numbers. This practice prevents the photo from being evaluated correctly by the organization of the Brasilia Photo Show and therefore, in a relevant and irreversible way, damages the performance of the photographer at the festival. Keep your focus on your work and your talent. Everything that comes from it is real and will give you the best fruits.
